Now that Spring has sprung, here is some useful information for Parks, Playgrounds and Off-leash Updates.
We can now use the main Parks Wayfinder map found here: https://maps.calgary.ca/ParksWayfinder/ to locate parks and playgrounds in each community! Please use the Legend, by clicking on the first, top-right hand side, white icon that looks like a list (three horizontal lines).
This Legend provide symbols to identify: Park Vendors, Park Assets, Off Leash Dog Areas and Playgrounds.
The Parks Wayfinder map also shows where the various Off-Leash areas are located around the city. These three Off-Leash Areas are only Off-Leash Areas in or immediately near Ward 12. They include:
- Riverbend http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Documents/Locations/Off-Leash-Areas/riverbend-off-leash-area.pdf
- Auburn Bay http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Documents/Locations/Off-Leash-Areas/auburn-bay-off-leash-area-map.pdf
- Sue Higgins Park http://www.calgary.ca/CSPS/Parks/Documents/Locations/Off-Leash-Areas/sue-higgins-park-off-leash-area.pdf
ALL OTHER AREAS REQUIRE A DOG TO WEAR A COLLAR AND LEASH.
Calgary Community Standards and Calgary Parks Environmental Education Partnerships:
Both groups are currently working together, as well as independently, to promote and implement their Off-Leash Ambassador and P.U.P.P.Y. programs city-wide. Our Parks Community Strategist has spoken with the Coordinator of our P.U.P.P.Y. program requesting they consider taking their PUPPY information out to community clean-ups, as well as the Community Standards, in regards to their Off-Leash Ambassador Program and general Responsible Pet Ownership information. Please contact these groups directly through 311 if you require further information and/or services.
